A new rumor going around claims that Microsoft's purported flagships, the Lumia 940 and 940 XL, will cost more than the Apple iPhone 6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6, indicating that the upcoming Windows phones will be top of the line.

The rumor came from My Windows but the article has already been taken down. Before it vanished, however, details of the report were picked up by several media outlets. One interesting detail is that the said smartphones will be of polycarbonate material and not metal. This raises the question as to how the upcoming Lumia devices could be more expensive than the metal-clad Samsung and Apple flagships, usually sold for $600 to $700, since this aspect contributes to either its lower or higher price, with metal-donning handsets costing more.

There are no solid details about their specs sheets as of now. There's also no official word from its maker in Redmond but past leaks and rumors seem to justify the pricing, one of which is the inclusion of an iris scanner, which users have yet to see in action in a smartphone.

Rumored specs of the new Lumia duo include 3 GB RAM and 32 GB of storage space that's expandable with a microSD slot native to the handsets. Both will get a 20-megapixel primary camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing snapper. Both are PureView, which may be a contributing factor in the huge price tag.

The Microsoft Lumia 940 will come with a 5.2-inch full HD (1920 × 1080 pixels) display and will house a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, the one used in the LG G4. Its big brother is said to don a 5.7-inch Quad HD (2560 × 1440 pixels) screen and will use the more powerful 810 chipset.

The Lumia 940 and 940 XL are expected to be officially introduced by Microsoft this November.
