Michelle Pfeiffer in talks for a 'Catwoman' spin-off

Imagine Michelle Pfeiffer starring in a "Catwoman" spin-off.

The actress who played one of the most iconic roles would have played it again without any hesitation had she been given the chance to do so. Pfeiffer became the benchmark for playing the role of Selina Kyle/Catwoman after she appeared in "Batman Returns" directed by Tim Burton in 1992.

In an interview with the New York Times, the actress mentioned that Catwoman still has a special place in her heart. She added that she would have loved to don her leather costume without second thoughts saying, "Are you kidding me? I loved that part. I felt like I was just getting comfortable and getting used to the claws and the mask, just figuring out how to move in all of that. There was a little bit of talk about that, then it kind of faded away."

At the time of its release, "Batman Returns'" dark tone and kinkiness received a widespread backlash. After that, Warner Bros. decided to make their next Batman film "Batman Forever" more palatable and family friendly, but at the same time, felt that a Catwoman solo film might be worth a shot.

The actress and Burton were interested to develop the spinoff and tell the story of Catwoman waking in a city ran by male superheroes and having to play the feline criminal once more when a threat that no male superhero can handle comes up.

Unfortunately, the finished script arrived around the time that "Batman Forever" became a big hit, which made Warner Bros. reconsider their solo Catwoman film. Both Burton and Pfeiffer lost interest and the idea was shelved for a couple of years before being abandoned all together. It's a shame that Pfeiffer was not able to get a second shot a playing Catwoman because the audience would have loved that.
