It's renewal and cancellation season, and ABC has revealed which shows got axed and which ones are getting another chance.

Mere days before the airing of the much-awaited finale of "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," ABC picked up the epic comic book adapted series for season 3. The news was announced via the show's official Twitter account, which also posted an intriguing promo art.

This renewal means that fans will get to explore more about Coulson and the team as they watch the agents throw themselves into life-threatening missions filled with explosions, high-powered skirmishes, and world-changing, life-altering secrets. Marvel Comics aficionados will also get to see more small screen action from the redoubtable organization that they saw develop on print and introduced on the silver screen with the blockbuster "Avengers" movies. The fact that Inhumans was incorporated in the series is already a treat.

The renewal of "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," Forbes says, is not at all surprising. The site believes that ABC is finally ready for the show's long-discovered power for "longevity" and has decided to continue retelling the stories of the characters the show already succeeded in fleshing out in its first two seasons.

In addition, the TV series has become one of ABC's most lucrative projects. It works for Marvel as the comic book giant's proof of their adamant efforts when it comes to the small screen jump of their most precious comics universes.

For now, not much is known about the premise for season 3. Even the finale for season 2 only hints that trouble is upon Coulson and his troop as their warfare against the Inhumans come to a bloody close. The two-hour season 2 finale will entail a war that "blurs the line between friend and foe" and will force the team to make "shocking sacrifices."

The concluding episode for "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." season 2 ominously titled "S.O.S." will air on May 12.
