Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather mega-fight: Venue agreement, more details end of January; 'I think the fight will happen' - Pacquiao

The world awaits the fate of the historic superfight between boxing superstars and arch-rivals Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao. In the last few weeks, negotiations between the camps were barely moving forward, which made the megabout more and more of a reverie than a reality. Now, reports are suggesting that the clash may finally happen and it may be announced as a tangible event before February steps in.

The Filipino boxing champion himself assured that new details about the face-off will be dropped soon.

"We will make an announcement before the end of the month. I think it (the fight) will happen," Pacquiao said to Manila Standard in a phone interview.

Prior to that, it was also reported that both fighters have already picked MGM Grand as the stage for the showdown. TVNZ also added that a drug testing program has also been set up.

The exact date of the fight, however, is still in discussion. But Pacquiao stated that it could be on May 2 as this is what his opponent wants. Mayweather Jr. proffered to fight Pacman on the said date during an interview with Showtime. Pacquiao's promoter Bob Arum, on the other hand, said that he "can't talk about it."

There are also major talks about the purse-split. The undisputed American boxer is reportedly shaking his head to a 50-50 division, thinking that Pacman is only being "desperate." This, however, does not seem to be an issue with Pacquiao. He already affirmed how he solely wants to taint Mayweather Jr.'s pristine record and establish himself as an adamant fighter of remarkable legacy.

"Mayweather can get the amount he wants. I challenged him to a charity fight. Until now, he has not agreed to it. So, money is not the issue in our fight. This fight is about legacy, this is about making the fans happy and, above all, this is for the good of boxing," Pacquiao resolutely declared when he spoke to Sky Sports.

"Someone told me that Mayweather posted a video of me when I was knocked out and lost to Marquez. So it means he thinks I am easy to knock out, so he should fight me," he said as quoted via TVNZ. "He should fight me if he thinks I can easily be knocked out."
