Manny Pacquiao is expected to be back in the Philippines any time now amid revelations that he was carrying a serious shoulder injury into his fight with unbeaten American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Pacquiao lost a unanimous decision to Mayweather though the fight has proven controversial due to a distinct lack of action, with Pacquiao throwing far less punches through the 12 rounds than fans have ever seen before, and Mayweather more than happy to constantly back away in the fight and just pick up points with his jab.
Many boxing fans were at a loss when after the fight it was revealed that Mayweather threw more punches than the usually aggressive Filipino fighter. But it was learned after the match that Pacquiao was fighting with a handicap, hiding a shoulder injury that hampered him from throwing the usual volume of punches he normally does.
The celebrated injury drew the ire of fans, some of whom have gone as far as suing Pacquiao for withholding his right shoulder injury.
Moreover, Pacquiao is being investigated by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for falsely filing his Pre Fight Medical Questionaire. If found guilty, Pacquiao could be fined and suspended by the NSAC.
Mayweather likewise saw the opportunity to put in some words, calling Pacquiao a coward and a sore loser. After initially saying he would give Pacquiao a rematch once he recuperates, the American boxer retracted the idea and said there would now be none.
Pacquiao spoke to the Christian Post on the controversy that has risen up in the aftermath of thr fight.
"My goal was to give God all the honor and glory no matter the outcome," Pacquiao told The Christian Post. "The devil does not like that and he will continue to do everything he can to take the attention off of the Lord."
It will take close to a year for Pacquiao to recover from the right shoulder surgery but he does admit that he does not know on whether he should continue boxing or not.
An article from Nick Giongco of Tempo Sports says that retirement is among Pacquiao's options per Canadian adviser Mike Koncz.
"He's been in boxing for a long time and it's time for him to spend time with his family."
