"Longmire" season 5 isn't set in stone yet. Netflix is yet to renew the series, which the streaming giant revived after being axed by its original home network A&E. Now, just like last year, the fate of Sheriff Walt Longmire is up in the air again.
The entirety of the fourth season of the crime drama was released by Netflix back on Sept. 10. It's been more than a month and fans are beginning to doubt if they will be able to see more of the unflappable sheriff in the future.
The show's horde of fans, however, continues to fight for another season. According to reports, fanatics of the series known collectively as the Longmire Posse assembled last Oct. 7 to show Netflix they want "Longmire" season 5.
They have also been dominating social media, urging everyone to like and share as well as tweet and retweet posts about the renewal of the series. It is still unclear if the massive campaign worked but what Netflix can get out of it is that the show has truly devoted fans.
But as some media outlets point out, Netflix is notorious for waiting an ample amount of time before declaring renewals as with even its biggest shows like "Orange Is the New Black" and "Daredevil." This is apparently to make sure that a new season is needed and well-deserved.
If this is the case for "Longmire" season 5 as well, then fans can expect renewal news in the days to come especially after their huge display of their undying passion to save the series.
Meanwhile, the possibility of season 4 being the series's last still lingers. It has always been said (but it isn't always the case for some shows) that when a series gets picked up by an entirely different entity, it is given only one season to simply tie loose ends and give fans a proper ending.
Whatever the case is, it looks like fans will have to endure the agony of a longer wait to learn if it is a no or go for "Longmire" season 5.
