The first-person video game shooter by Dutch developers Guerrilla Games, "Killzone 2" and "Killzone 3," will have its online servers shut down by March of 2018. This news may sadden the significant number of fans that the game has amassed since the release of "Killzone 2" for the PlayStation 3 way back in 2009 due to the enjoyable online multiplayer experience that it has brought its players for eight years.

In the official Guerrilla Games website, the Dutch developers delivered a heartfelt announcement regarding the cessation of their online servers, announcing the exact date of when the servers will be shut down for good. It goes without saying that all of the online features will be terminated as well. Officially, the servers will be shut down on March 29 next year.

They did not forget to thank their unrelenting fans for the years that they have spent playing the game, and assured that the single-player features would still be accessible to those who would want to relive the moments of "Killzone" once again. According to Twinfinite, the more mainstream shooter games, such as "Call of Duty" and "Battlefield," are popular due to their fast-paced gameplay, which is very different from that of "Killzone."

"Killzone" offers a slower-paced gameplay, and have players experiencing a more sluggish feel compared to mainstream shooters, which can be perceived as slightly more realistic. Other video game websites have applauded that the "Killzone" games have maintained a steady stream of concurrent users for such a long time, especially considering that both games required the PlayStation 3, which is now an older console.

There is no reason for fans to be saddened by this news, however. Guerrilla Games has now shifted its focus on its premium triple A title, "Horizon Zero Dawn," which has received very high praises from players and video game critics alike. However, for those who are clamoring for more "Killzone" action, the "Killzone: Shadow Fall" game will still be up and running.
