K-pop news 2017: BTS sets Guinness World Record for most Twitter engagements

Korean pop superstar act Bangtan Boys or BTS has just broken the world records for most Twitter engagement.

The Guinness World Records revealed that the seven-member group now holds two new records — that of the most Twitter engagements and the more specific title of most Twitter engagements for a music group.

The winner of the title was based on the average retweets an account received for each tweet. According to Guinness, that is roughly 252,200 retweets for the K-pop group.

On far second runner-up is former One Direction vocalist Harry Styles, who enjoys an average of 165,473 retweets.

Even the group's official sub-accounts receive plenty of engagements — bts_love_myself, which is associated with the band's partnership with United Nations Children's Fund, gets an average of 103,290 retweets, while bts_bighit draws in 72,739 retweets per tweet.

For a boy group coming from a relatively smaller agency in South Korea, Big Hit Entertainment, this new achievement is nothing short of massive.

The group's latest performance of their hit song "DNA" at the American Music Awards just last week might have been a big boost on BTS' already swelling popularity in and out of social media.

After all, it was not only the Army (BTS' massive fan base) who went crazy with their performance, but even international stars and fellow guests at the AMAs.

It has definitely been an exciting week for BTS members Jin, J-Hope, RM (or Rap Monster), Suga, Jimin, V and Jungkook. Apart from the AMAs, they also visited "The Ellen Degeneres Show" last Nov. 21, and have reportedly filmed for upcoming episodes of "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" and "The Late Late Show With James Corden," only some of America's most popular talk shows.

Their world domination continues today, as BTS releases a remix of their hit song "Mic Drop," their first collaboration with American musicians Steve Aoki and Desiigner.
