Just weeks after confirming the coming of the new platforms and unveiling the first versions to registered developers, Apple has now released the first public beta versions for its upcoming OS X El Capitan for Macs and its mobile equivalent, the iOS 9.
Although fans are still excited about the upcoming desktop operating system, most of the interest is with the new iOS that is scheduled to go on a full launch this coming fall. Many fans ask, what is new with the upcoming iOS 9?
Design
Unlike the previous iOS 7 and 8 updates that introduced major upgrades in how the platform looks and how it feels like in terms of performance, the upcoming iOS 9 can be deemed to be a more refined update to the operating system. Observers have already noted how the public beta doesn't differ that much from the current iOS. The most noted change in terms of design is the shift of the system fonts – the iOS 9 now uses Apple's proprietary San Francisco font first introduced in the Apple Watch. The new font replaced the signature Helvetica Nue, making the font stand out much more, even in colored backgrounds.
Features
One of the biggest changes in the iOS 9 is with Apple's digital Assistant Siri. Now, the interface between user and Siri is made more intelligent and interactive, letting Siri analayze user habits and information on the device to make suggestions closer to the user's interests.
In addition, the new iOS 9 will also introduce new features, such as the much talked about Maps app. Although the app itself is not new, Apple has now added an option that lets users see mass transit directions, including schedules and alerts for interruptions and delays. Meanwhile, the new News app will collate articles from different sources and news organizations and present them in an easy-to-read format.
