The upcoming iPad Mini 3 may already have competition as Asus released a tablet with a 64-bit processor.
Asus is one of the eager participants of the ongoing IFA 2014 trade show and took the wraps off the new MeMO Pad 7. The tablet packs a 7-inch 1280x800 LED-backlit IPS screen display. One of the head turning features of Asus MeMO Pad 7 is the Intel Atom 64-Bit quad-core 1.86GHz processor paired with 1GB of RAM.
The tablet packs 8GB or 16GB of expandable storage space. The tablet also comes with free 5GB lifetime cloud storage and an additional 11GB first-year free cloud storage. At the back, the device sports a 5 MP with 2 MP front-facing camera.
The pricing and date availability were not yet announced by Asus. However, it is speculated that the device will be cheaper compared to high end slabs since Intel's cheap new 64-Bit Atom processors paved the way for cheaper devices with fair performance. The tablet will be available for purchase in October, which is the same time that the iPad Mini 3 will be announced to the public.
In the past, the miniature iPad was released in October. Both the first iPad Mini as well as the iPad Mini with Retina display arrived in the market in October of 2012 and 2013. It was initially speculated that the same will happen this year.
According to rumors, the iPad Mini 3 will retain its 7.9-inch 2048 x 1536 resolution screen packed in the iPad Mini Retina. However, some reports stated that Apple may increase the size of the screen panel of the upcoming tablet. The third generation of the iPad Mini will also come with the new A8 processor chip and the latest iOS 8 as well as the Touch ID fingerprint sensor. The iPad Mini 3 will be available in 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB variants.
