Last month, Hewlett-Packard underwent a split-up to take on more specific computing ventures—one to undertake PCs and printers. The other geared more on corporate hardware, software and services. Now, rumors of a revolutionary product from the same company come whirling.
The pioneering machine referred to is the Sprout, and it is rumored to be launched next week. It is yet again another monumental step for the overhauled company to take computing and printing expertise to new heights.
The Sprout will be the first desktop offering from the company and it is packed. Re/code detailed it as ''a flat touch-enabled surface, a large flat screen display similar to HP's line of Pavilion desktops and an overhead assembly that includes a 3D scanner and projector.'' Eric Monsef, a former Apple hardware executive, is the developer of the new contraption.
The flat surface will serve as the users' work area. According to Domain-B, the Sprout got rid of the traditional keyboard input and was instead reengineered to project images on the flat surface, and users then can work from there. With a finger or a stylus, users can arrange and play with the images, even rescale and change color properties, all on the flat surface. To slot in other elements and images needed for the projects users are working on, a physical, real life version of the object can be placed on Sprout's scanner, and an image of it is dropped in the work area for the user's further manipulation.
Sprout is expected to support Google's Chrome OS in the future. As of the moment, reports say that the forthcoming computer is running Windows. The ambitious make of the new HP machine target business and professionals. Digital Trends even foresees Sprout computers beneficial to governments as well. PC World said that HP has to be committed and demand-conscious to pull off a wide and successful reception for the Sprout. This is to make sure that the new PC will be thrown off in a short span of time.
HP has neither debunked nor confirmed the reports. However, the company's event on Oct. 29 will likely and hopefully unveil the mighty Sprout.
