Houston Rockets rumors: Deron Williams to join?

Weeks back, it was reported that the Houston Rockets could be welcoming back Goran Dragic to the fold to strengthen its point guard spot. With respect to Patrick Beverly, the current position could be improved with a higher caliber point guard that could be available in the market.

Nothing has been heard just yet on the status of the Goran Dragic angle and now there is another point guard in the radar of the Rockets – Deron Williams of the Brooklyn Nets.

Williams is without a doubt all-star caliber and could be the missing piece the Rockets would need. Williams is obviously someone who is far more better than Beverly or Dragic and should the Rockets succeed, Houston will have one of the fiercest starting five in the NBA today.

Williams is best known for spending his first five seasons with the Utah Jazz so playing alongside superstars should not pose a problem. Williams is under contract with the Brooklyn Nets until the 2016-17 season and may prove to be a costly acquisition considering the millions of dollars left in his contract.

Why would the Rockets want Williams? Well for one, he is a good assist person. He averages 8.6 assists per game and could be a gem of a player to play alongside the likes of James Harden, Dwight Howard, Corey Brewer and Josh Smith.

At the moment, Harden is the leading assist man for the Rockets with a total of 245 but the bearded one is also needed at the scoring front. Hence, Harden carries a heavy load and with a guy like Williams around to handle the assists department, such could give Harden a sigh of relief.

Williams is the third player that the Rockets have eyed for the point guard position. Aside from Dragic, they also had their eyes set on Rajon Rondo but the Dallas Mavericks beat them to him.

The trade deadline will be on February 19 at 3 p.m. EST so expect the coming weeks to be full of player movements, not only for the Rockets, but the entire NBA.
