'High School Musical 4' cast news, spoilers: Troy-like character makes up for loss of original cast members

Troy and Chad in "High School Musical" Disney

There are a lot of rumors going around regarding the possible return of the original cast in "High School Musical 4," but fans should not expect the whole gang to be back together.

Disney started work on the highly-anticipated film even before "High School Musical 3: Senior Year" came out, which was around the year 2008.

Even then, there were no plans for Troy Bolton (Zac Efron), Gabriella Montez (Vanessa Hudgens), Chad Danforth (Corbin Bleu), Taylor McKessie (Monique Coleman), Sharpay Evans (Ashley Tisdale), and Ryan Evans (Lucas Grabeel) to be part of "High School Musical 4."

Former president of Disney Channels Worldwide Rich Ross told Reuters that time, "Are we going to have all the cast back? Probably not. Will we have some of them? I hope so."

Tisdale has already said that she will not be back in "High School Musical 4," so those dreams about the fabulous Sharpay teaching dance lessons in East High will not happen.

There is no confirmation regarding the return of the rest of the original cast. Efron even failed to make it to the 10th yea anniversary reunion of the first "High School Musical" film earlier this year.

"High School Musical 4" will introduce a batch of new characters whose stories fans will follow in the new film. As early as March this year, Disney has been on the lookout for five leads.

One of the characters will be well connected to some of the original characters in the sense that he is a cousin of Ryan and Sharpay and that he will be very much like Troy.

As per E! Online, this "High School Musical 4" character is named Campbell. Like Efron's beloved character, this young man is a soccer star who is also has a passion for theater.

He will be caught in a love triangle with Erin — another soccer player and the only girl on the soccer team — and Derek, Erin and Campbell's teammate who is tough on the outside but sweet and family-oriented on the inside.

Completing the new gang in "High School Musical 4" are Nathalie — East High's biggest fan and Erin's best friend — and Tamara, a former queen bee looking to redeem herself.
