'Hart of Dixie' season 5 renewed or cancelled? Series' fate still unknown

Cast of Hart of Dixie

The continuation of Zoe and Wade's story still hangs in the balance as The CW Network has not reached a decision regarding the possible return of "Hart of Dixie." The show's season 4 finale was aired just last week and there is no word if the series will move forward to season 5.

Actor Scott Porter, who plays George Tucker in the dramedy, says that the fate of "Hart of Dixie" is still unknown. Like fans, Porter is eager to know if he and the cast will ever play their well-loved characters once more.

"At this point, our sets are gone. No one has called us," the actor told US Weekly. "We're still waiting. We'll probably be waiting until May. But I wish that they would just go ahead and let us know."

The agony of waiting, both for viewers and the cast, proves unbearable to some. Some reports are claiming that "Hart of Dixie" lead star Rachel Bilson flew out of Los Angeles so she will be far off in the event news of the show's cancellation breaks out. Together with her fiancé Hayden Christensen and their 6-month-old daughter Briar Rose, Bilson is said to have gone someplace else to avoid hearing the sad news should The CW end the show for good.

At the moment, fans have nothing left to do but wait. Even network president Mark Pedowitz asks them to be patient about it.

"We're going to see the ratings," he explained during the Television Critics Association winter press tour.

"I think [series creator] Leila [Gerstein] did a great job in the 10 episodes this year of making something fun for the fans. So if it ends, there's a great finale. If it doesn't end, there's a great season finale, but we're not committed one way or the other yet," he went on to say without making promises.
