'Halo 5: Guardians' news: The hunt for truth about Master Chief commences in new teaser trailer

The trailer for "Halo 5: Guardians" is now available for fans to watch and, well, study. The teaser called "Bullet" was released during the last episode of "The Walking Dead" on AMC, and it is teeming with traces of the Master Chief's true and undisclosed identity and intention.

Those who did not catch the video can go to the "Hunt the Truth" blog to check it out. And while on it, Microsoft invites fans to study the video to catch the clues that point to the fate of the legendary Master Chief.

To give a head start, fans would want to spend more time poring over the bullet that reduces the Master Chief's helmet into smithereens. The bullet has the word "traitor" etched on it and, by the looks of it, "Halo 5: Guardians" will reveal the protagonist's true self. The viral crusade has many fans questioning if the fighter really is the savior of the planet Earth everyone hopes he is.

In an ARG or alternate reality game started by 343 Industries on Tumblr, a fictional journalist, war photographer and, from the looks of it, a major Master Chief fan named Benjamin Giraud delves into the story of the Master Chief after being tasked to do an in-depth profile of the so-called hero.

"What began as a high-profile hero story quickly turns into a full-blown investigation. Sources claim they know the 'real Master Chief': The boy, the soldier, the hero ... the traitor? But who's telling the truth?" teases the game studio in the Episode 00 primer of the ARG series.

With gamers doubting the hero they knew from the beginning, 343 Industries should be dishing out more about the Master Chief's true identity and intentions in the next episodes. After all, it is titled Episode 00 so there's definitely more to come.

Meanwhile, Reddit users have also found more words in the trailer: abductee, ally, hero, orphan, recruit, savior, soldier, son, traitor, victim, warrior. What all those could mean, there is only one way to find out. Fans can linger on for the next phase of the "investigation" and hunt for truth on March 29.
