Actor Benicio Del Toro starred as the Collector in the first "Guardians of the Galaxy" movie. The character was meant to be a minor role, which is why Del Toro isn't certain whether or not his character will be back in Marvel's highly-anticipated follow-up to the superhero film, but the actor is hopeful.

"I would like to keep working on that character, though," he told IGN. "It was kind of like a cameo. I would like to keep developing the character based on what's written in the comic books. I'd like to see some different sides."

Also, he wants to be part of "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" because he loved working on the first film and with the people in it, saying, "I had a blast working with [director] James Gunn and the cast — but it's not up to me."

With "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" set to delve into Star-Lord's past and Gunn planning to change things up just for the film, rumors has it that the Collector may be revealed as the father of the superhero. However, with the character's fate still hanging in the balance, one can only hope.

Furthermore, IGN says that with the Infinity Gauntlet storyline being fleshed out in upcoming Marvel flicks and the Collector's involvement there, it is a given that more of the immortal will be seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, probably even in "Avengers: Infinity War" as well.

Del Toro enjoyed being one of the oldest living beings in the universe in the movie. In preparing for the role and with the studio helping him to channel his inner Collector, the actor revealed that he "learned a lot about the character."

"One of the most interesting things that I learned about him is the reasons that he's collecting," Del Toro shared in the same IGN interview. "He sees himself as putting together Noah's Ark. He sees himself as having that responsibility. He's collecting things, because eventually there's going to be an apocalypse in the universe and he wants to get things to safety. That's a really interesting aspect of the character."

As of now, Del Toro's return in "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" isn't locked in. Fans will have to wait and see as the movie inches closer to its May 5, 2017 release date.
