'GTA 6' release date, news: title may be long time off as Rockstar stays busy with 'GTA 5'

It looks like developer Rockstar Games is nowhere near done with "Grand Theft Auto 5," which means fans won't get their hands on "GTA 6" anytime soon.

A leak from a few months back suggests that the studio still has a couple of years' worth of downloadable content (DLC) for "GTA 5," wrapping it up with two massive online map expansions set for 2017 and 2018, respectively.

The very same leak, which was posted on the GTA Forums, broke the news about the "Bikers" DLC, which somewhat gives the source some credibility.

If the rest of the information provided on the post is also on the button, "GTA 6" will not see the light of day until the year 2020, "at the very earliest," as the insider emphasized.

Interestingly, he mentioned that the game will feature Vice City, the central location in the mega hit 2002 iteration, "GTA: Vice City," although it is unclear if it will be the main area or just a map expansion.

Fans can imagine a visually enhanced version of the map when it ends up in "GTA 6" as Rockstar will have more advanced tools to put it together.

Before Rockstar commits itself fully to "GTA 6," it will reportedly beef up "GTA 5" even more with DLCs with the size of a full game.

The first one will add North Yankton and Liberty City in September next year, while the second one will include San Fierro and Las Ventures for October 2018.

As for the main location in "GTA 6," there are reports that it will be set in London, a place Rockstar has considered before but decided against because it was deemed more fitting for another game rather than "GTA."

There are also reports of Tokyo, Japan being the central area for "GTA 6." Tech Radar also claimed a few months back that Rockstar also tried to recreate the Land of the Rising Sun in a game but failed due to the problematic road systems.

If the rumors are to be believed, Rockstar might revisit their work on this for "GTA 6." The abovementioned site adds that work on the "GTA 5" sequel is underway.
