The medical drama television show by the ABC network, "Grey's Anatomy," has been on air since March of 2005. Given the length of its run and the success that the show has amassed through the years, people have been wondering just how long the cast members and the show's creators can keep up.

In a report by CNN, the upcoming episode will be marking the show's 300th, which is an impressive milestone. This has sparked questions as to how long the show can run or if it will even reach 600 episodes. The show's creator, Shonda Rhimes, has made a "pact" with Ellen Pompeo, who plays main protagonist Meredith Grey. The agreement is that Rhimes will continue to write for "Grey's Anatomy" as long as Pompeo is still on board.

Rhimes is impressed with Pompeo's dedication towards her role, which she has been playing for 14 years. Pompeo has consistently shown enthusiasm and interest through the years.

Basically, the show's continuous run is dependent on Pompeo at this point. According to E Online News, despite having penned so much material for the show, Rhimes is still motivated to keep the story "fresh." Co-cast member, Sarah Drew, stated that "we can't do the show without Ellen. It's not Grey's Anatomy." The show is also known for the multiple turnovers of cast members, but Rhimes and Pompeo both grew together in its development.

Given that, what can fans expect from the 300th episode of "Grey's Anatomy?" Digital Spy has reported that fans can expect a lot of flashbacks emphasizing the cast members of the earlier seasons. Specifically, the members of the original cast, Sandra Oh, Katherine Heigl, and George O'Malley. This serves as a good break from the drama audiences just witnessed after Martin Henderson, who plays Nathan Riggs, departed the show in a peaceful manner.

The 300th episode of "Grey's Anatomy" aired last Thursday, Nov. 9.
