Tech giant and game bigwig Microsoft has clarified a gaffe made at one of its presentations in a recently-concluded event.
During the recent Comic-Con 2015 held in San Diego, Microsoft revealed that the "Gears of War: Ultimate Edition" title will have its very own Xbox One bundle. The package will come with a 500 GB Xbox One console, one of the revised and newly-launched system controllers, and early access to the multiplayer beta of "Gears of War 4" that would be released next year. In addition, the "Ultimate Edition" package will also come with a Superstar Cole multiplayer skin and a standard 14-day Xbox Live trial.
However, Microsoft was quick to dispel rumors that the game title itself will come free with all Xbox One systems. The speculations started when Rod Fergusson, head of Microsoft's development studio for the "Gears of War" project, announced at the San Diego Comic-Con that the game would be free for all Xbox Ones.
Microsoft was quick to clarify that the only Xbox One systems that would receive the free game are the ones that are part of the Ultimate Edition bundle.
Releasing a statement reported by game site Gamespot, Microsoft said, "At yesterday's 'Gears of War' panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Rod Fergusson stated that every Xbox One sold starting August 26 would include a copy of 'Gears of War: Ultimate Edition'. To clarify, only the Xbox One 'Gears of War: Ultimate Edition' bundle will include a copy of the game."
The company also stated that offering the game for free only as part of the bundle would help gamers transition from older-gen consoles to the current ones.
"We're committed to offering gamers a variety of choices to help them jump into the current generation of gaming this year and are excited to offer the Xbox One 'Gears of War Edition' bundle next month."
