Franklin Graham praises Army veteran for sacrificing self to protect others in Oregon

During tragic moments, certain individuals sometimes rise to the challenge and exhibit incredible acts of courage and heroism worthy of admiration. One such person is Army veteran Chris Mintz, who sacrificed himself last week to be able to protect students during the horrific Oregon college shooting.

Reverend Franklin Graham is one of the many people who are in awe of Mintz's gallantry. "I thank God for young men like Army veteran Chris Mintz—he is a hero. He was shot at least five times—in the legs, in the hand, in the back, in the abdomen—trying to block the gunman and prevent other lives from being lost in the mass shooting at Umpqua Community College," he wrote on his Facebook page.

Graham added that in today's "incredibly selfish society," it is inspiring to see selfless individuals who are willing to risk their lives to protect others.

"We need to recognise those who put others before themselves and do the right thing... continue to pray for him and the others who were wounded and the family members whose loved ones were killed," he urged.

In a later post, Graham expressed unity with the families of the Christians who were killed and injured during that incident by sharing the Bible verses Matthew 10:28-31. The verses say: "And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father's will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows."

Graham then added the hashtag being promoted by Republican presidential bet Dr. Ben Carson: "Yes, ‪#‎IAmAChristian."
