Amir Khan as Floyd's next opponent - Floyd Mayweather Sr. wants fight

Floyd Mayweather Sr., the father of unbeaten American boxer Floyd Mayweather has never though highly of Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao, at least until his son and the boxer-lawmaker faced off last May 2, 2015 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

With the fight over and his son winning that one via unanimous decision, it seems that the elder Mayweather is singing a different tune.

That is if you consider his claim that he believes that British boxer could be an easier fight compared to Pacquiao.

Mayweather has said that he intends to fight one more time with September as the target date with no specific fighter in mind as of yet. Khan seems to be an option though this has yet to be confirmed.

Also, add to the fact that Khan has to prove his worth first. He is set to face a previous Pacquiao victim in Chris Algieri by May 29, at the Barclays Center in New York where a victory could be a big lift for Khan.

Khan has been there before until he was shunned at the last minute by Mayweather. Ironically, Khan is a fighter that Pacquiao and camp had talked to before the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight materialized. So will the second time be a charm?

If Mayweather stays true to his word, he will face Khan with no title in mind. Apparently he is targeting to equalize the record of boxing great Rocky Marciano at 49-0. On whether he would go beyond that is anyone's guess.

But a dark shadow may be cast on the bout if ever it does materialize. Apparently not too many people are happy about the much hyped fight of the century between Mayweather and Pacquiao and the latest word is that Mayweather would be open to a rematch with Pacquiao once the Filipino boxer recovers after surgery.

Pacquiao is set to undergo treatment for his shoulder and it may take some time for him to get back into the ring.

Hence, it makes sense if Mayweather would fight Khan first and then consider one last match against Pacquiao to settle the score and prove that his first win was no fluke. But the thing here is are fans still interested in seeing Mayweather and Pacquiao get it on one more time?
