'The Flash' season 2 plot spoilers: Jay Garrick, Wally West, more comic book characters confirmed

The Flash The CW

Barry Allen won't be the only speedster in "The Flash" season 2. Comic book fans will be delighted to know that Jay Garrick, the first ever speedster in the whole DC Comics universe, will appear in the show, to be portrayed by "Masters of Sex" star Teddy Sears.

"Having Jay Garrick come onto the show was one of our earliest ideas," executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said via Variety. "It is so exciting, as we rush into season 2, that we finally get to bring the Crimson Comet to life. We couldn't imagine anyone more suited to play the original Flash than Teddy."

Jay is described as a "mysterious figure" who comes to Central City to inform Barry Allen and the S.T.A.R. Labs crew of a looming danger that he alone would not be able to stop. In the season 1 finale, Jay's helmet was spurted out of the wormhole, hinting that the original speedster is coming.

But two speedsters aren't enough for "The Flash" season 2, which is why Wally West, who is also a known superhero with the same powers in the comic books, will also be helping out. This was confirmed via the Twitter account of the show's writers.

A whole lot more characters from the comics are joining the mix as well. "One Tree Hill" alum Shantel VanSanten was cast to play the role of Patty Spivot, Joe's new partner who is obsessed with metahumans and with The Flash, too — she just doesn't know it yet.

Kreisberg said VanSanten's character will be there to "complicate Barry Allen's love life," as if it isn't complicated enough. Also the showrunner said that Zoom, who he described as "faster" than Reverse-Flash and the Flash, will be wreaking havoc in Central City.

Showrunner Greg Berlanti was quoted by Deadline saying that the show will "pick up a few months later."

He said, "We deal with the fallout of the cataclysm that happened at the end of the year. As we used the particle accelerator to introduce the metahuman, we'll be introducing characters from Earth 2 on the show."

"The Flash" season 2 will premiere Oct. 6.
