Almost four years have passed since Bethesda released "The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim," and although the most recent release for the franchise is the rebranded "The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited," the "Skyrim" release remains as one of Bethesda's moneymakers.
In addition, with over 20 million copies sold, it is safe to say that Bethesda's "Skyrim" is one of the most well-known game releases of any genre. Meanwhile, the success of the title, not to mention the whole franchise itself, has fans expecting a sequel or a new series installment soon.
However, it seems that Bethesda has placed the "Elder Scrolls" franchise on the back burner for now, and will not be coming out with a sequel to "Skyrim" anytime soon.
Speaking to gaming industry observer Dual Shockers at this year's Gamescom convention, Bethesda's vice president of marketing Pete Hines hinted that instead of diverting their attention to other titles such as a new title to follow "Skyrim" and continuing "The Elder Scrolls" saga, Bethesda is instead devoting all its time and concentration on finishing the upcoming title "Fallout 4", another company bestseller.
The next installment for the post-apocalyptic "Fallout" series, which was already halfway through its development even before Bethesda's official announcement at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, is set to roll out in November for the PlaysSation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
As for when players would expect a direct sequel to "Skyrim", Hines said to news site Telegraph: "It's rare to have franchises like the ones we have and to have people joking about when is 'Skyrim 2' coming out. Generally speaking that's what you'd be getting with another publisher in charge. They'd be spitting out a 'Skyrim 2' the year after or two years later. That's just not how we view it."
