Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is the latest artist slated to receive the highly coveted star at the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The official announcement said the wrestler-turned-actor will be honored for his box-office contributions as well as his philanthropic work.

According to reports, the 45-year-old filmmaker was praised for a combination of personality and talent, combined with his "great amount of philanthropic work," which is part of the criteria for choosing who earns an immortal spot at the Walk of Fame.

"We envision scores of photos being taken at his star by his fans," said Ana Martinez, producer of Walk of Fame ceremonies.

The "Jumanji" reboot actor confirmed the news via his Twitter account, saying it is a "true honor" to receive the much-coveted star and calling the experience "a full circle journey." To any fan going to see him receive the prestige, he promised, "tequila on me."

There was an outpour of congratulatory messages for The Rock following the announcement. Some could not believe that his star was not yet there in the first place, while others said "it is about time." One Twitter user revived an old clip of Johnson talking about "gratitude," saying she was "genuinely" happy for the actor.

Johnson later posted another tweet thanking all his fans for their kind words, adding that he is very "grateful and lucky for the honor."

The Rock has indeed given great contributions to the Hollywood film industry in recent years, starring in high-budget movies that consistently top box offices worldwide.

This year alone, he starred in three huge movies. He reprised his iconic role as Hobbs in "The Fate of the Furious," he starred as Mitch Buchannon in "Baywatch," and before the year ends, he will play Dr. Smolder Bravestone in the much-awaited reboot "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle."

In 2016, he starred alongside Kevin Hart for the live-action comedy "Central Intelligence" and was the voice behind Maui in the hit animated film "Moana."

Johnson will receive his star at the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Dec. 13, at a ceremony scheduled to run from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. PT at 6801 Hollywood Blvd., in front of Hollywood and Highland.
