As if the controversies surrounding the famous Baptist family is not enough, the Duggars, known to be the family featured in the reality TV show "Counting On," is reported to face another cancellation. Rumors started to float after the last season concluded on Oct. 24 without any hints for an upcoming installment despite of the last season's final episode being called a "season finale" and not a "series finale."
Although TLC have kept mum on the issue, The Hollywood Gossip tried to put some light on the matter by coming up with some factors that could have been the reason for the show's "plummeting ratings."
Prequels "17 Kids and Counting," and "18 Kids and Counting" might have both been a success until the Duggar's eldest son Josh, got involved in a child molestation scandal, which included offenses against Jill, Jessa, Joy, and Jinger. This occurred by the time that "19 Kids and Counting" was an ongoing reality series on TLC, and the shock the news brought the world made the fans disappointed and upset that TLC was forced to stop the then reality TV show, thus earning the family's first cancellation.
However, over a contract and an agreement between TLC and the Duggars to stop featuring Josh on the show, a spin-off was aired in December 2015 and the title was replaced with "Counting On."
Critics say that it was too soon of a move to try vindicating the Duggars of the disgrace caused by the eldest child, and that even the fans who immaculately supported the reality TV show had lost their interest, leading to low ratings from viewers.
Last June, the four Duggar sisters came to file a Privacy Lawsuit against In Touch and Springdale, Arkansas police officers for leaking information about their family without their consent. The lawsuit was joined by their brother in spite of the four sisters' request for the court to deny it.
In October, they lost against In Touch because according to the court, the magazine "cannot be held liable for the city's and county's failure to follow the law." Nonetheless, the siblings' argument against Arkansas police officers are still ongoing.
