'Downright sacrilegious': Choir replaces 'Jesus' with 'Hillary' in new campaign song

Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton might have just earned the ire of evangelical voters after the women's chorus Voices From the Heart replaced the word "Jesus" with "Hillary" in singing the African-American spiritual song "Woke Up This Morning (With My Mind On Jesus)" for her campaign stop in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, over the weekend.

The song lyrics went: "Woke up this mornin's with my mind stayin' on Hillary."

According to The Daily Caller, Clinton has been trying very hard to get her ratings up especially after an NBC News/Marist poll released on Sunday showed Sen. Bernie Sanders from Vermont leading her by nine points in the race for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination.

Fox News commentator Todd Starnes called the desecration of an old gospel song as "just plain creepy" and "downright sacrilegious."

He said this was not the first time that Democrats have tried to consider their leaders as gods. He recalled a time when Newsweek put on a cover story depicting President Obama as the "Second Coming" and an artwork depicting him as the crucified Christ.

Starnes also recalled a time when school children were ordered to sing praise songs to the president, "Barack Hussein Obama—mmm mmm mmm."

In fact, Starnes said, one of Obama's "disciples" at MSNBC "actually called him God!"

He said this may explain why the Democrats once tried to vote God out of their platform. "They've only got room for one god in their party—or as the case may be goddess," referring to Hillary Clinton.

Voices From the Heart is not exclusive to Clinton since the group has earlier been enlisted to sing songs for other Democrats, including Obama when he won the presidency. Nevertheless, the members of the choir were very excited when Clinton invited them during the Portsmouth event.

They even shared on their Facebook page: "CALLING ALL VOICES SINGERS, Active Singers and Sabbatical Singers! Please check your email for details of an amazing invitation we've received from the Hillary Clinton campaign to sing SATURDAY MORNING in PORTSMOUTH."

Clinton claims to be a devout Christian, adding that she developed her strong faith and relationship with God during her childhood years by regularly attending the services of the First United Methodist Church in Park Ridge, Illinois.
