'Destiny' Xur items update: Exotic offerings to be limited in 'Destiny 2.0'

Xur, Agent of the Nine

With the release of "The Taken King," the third expansion in Bungie's sci-fi space-age shooter "Destiny," players will feel that they are playing a completely different game. Indeed, the developer promises massive changes and improvements starting with the roll out of the DLC in time to celebrate the second year of the game.

One of the changes that players will immediately notice in "Destiny 2.0" is with exotic items vendor Xur. Announcing the adjustments on their weekly community update, the game's senior design lead Tyson Green wrote that starting with the release of "The Taken King," Xur will change his inventory offerings.

Instead of the traveling merchant offering a variety of Exotic items and Engrams every week, the inventory will become much more limited this time. In the new "Destiny," Xur's loot bag will contain either a specific Exotic Weapon or an Exotic Engram, but never the two together.

According to Tyson, "This change is due primarily to our desire to give players more direct paths to acquiring the Exotics they want through Quests and gameplay experiences, and to avoid repetition in his inventory."

Meanwhile, to compensate for the limited inventory, Xur will be offering a Legacy Engram in addition to the week's chosen Exotic item. The Legacy Engrams contain Exotics from Year One, and will be offered so that Guardians who are looking to complete their Year One item Collections can do so conveniently, without repeating quests or missions.

In addition, the Agent of the Nine vendor will also start to sell a new item called the Three of Coins. This item, when consumed during missions, raises the drop luck for bosses, which increases the chances of fights dropping Exotic Engrams, including weapons. The Three of Coins has a cumulative luck effect, so each use lasts for a whole mission, with each boss fight netting a higher chance of dropping Exotics.
