Bungie and Activision's merger has brought "Destiny" into being. With already 12,869,066 gamers (and counting) hooked since its rollout in September, the online mythic science fiction first-person shooter video game is only one thing: a runaway success. Now, all eyes are set on its expected surefire superb successor, "Destiny 2," which is already rumored to materialize in spring 2016.

Although the purported launch date remains unconfirmed, it is safe to say this early that the upcoming game will turn up and developers are indeed on the move to build it. CEO of Activision Publishing Eric Hirshberg himself declared it in a VG 247 report.

"Work has also begun on future expansion packs, as well as on our next full game release," Hirshberg shared as quoted by Ecumenical News.

While that is already music to the ears of the horde of "Destiny" fans awaiting the fate of their favorite game, they would be all the more ecstatic to know that Activision is arranging and brainstorming on game material that can span up to 10 long years. Hirshberg puts it as a "Lord of the Rings-sized narrative." So it looks like "Destiny 2" already has a successor on the cards.

When it comes to gameplay on the future title, Bungie Community Manager David Dague already dropped some hints.

"For Destiny 2, the idea is that the Guardian that you have created is something you can bring along with you on that adventure," Dague disclose via IGN. "If you take a look at the way people have played other games for a long period of time, they've had a relationship with the same character for a very long time."

Venture Beat, as cited by Latino Post, adds that "Destiny 2" will continue on with the events that took place in its predecessor title, suggesting that Bungie is staging a comeback for the same set of characters. All-new weapons and items will also be introduced in "Destiny 2."

Dague stated, "It's a lot of fun to walk around the studio because there's always somebody thinking about visions for the future. The next place you'll go, the next enemy that you'll fight, the next thing you'll earn for doing those things."
