The Denver Nuggets have yet to announce their new head coach but it seems that the search has been narrowed down to three Ms – Mike Malone, Mike D' Antoni and Melvin Hunt.
Mike Malone last coaches the Sacramento Kings before being eventually fired last season. Malone is said to be a serious contender although he will have to contend with D' Antoni and interim coach Melvin Hunt.
Mike D' Antoni is no stranger to the Nuggets organization, having had a short stint of handling the team back in 1998-99 season. D' Antoni last coached the Los Angeles Lakers in what was one of his forgettable reins as head coach.
D' Antoni's best years was with the Phoenix Suns and of course for a time with the Knicks. He has made it know that he would be open to hooking up with the Nuggets and has been pretty much the leading favorite in the rumor mill.
Melvin Hunt is of course the interim coach who took over from Brian Shaw, leaving some positives ever since he took on the role after the firing of Shaw. On whether those key points and progress would be enough remains to be seen as the Nuggets gear up to name their next head coach hopefully before the 2015 NBA draft comes around.
While the three names seem to be a hard bunch to choose from, it may all depend on the Nuggets vision moving forward.
Malone has done wonders with the Kings but apparently not enough to prolong his stay there.
D' Antoni has been around and is best known for his focus on offense. His defensive coaching side may be in question and such could tarnish his chances if Denver wants to employ defense or at least a balance on both ends.
Hunt could continue his tenure but with not much credentials to bank on, such could eliminate him from the mix and probably relegate him to an assistant coaching role. Hunt managed a 10-13 record after taking over from Shaw.
Whoever wins the nod should be known soon as the Nuggets are the only team left without a head coach as of this writing.
