Dell has released what media outlets believe to be the MacBook Air killer and a traveler's more-than-capable "sidekick." The laptop called the XPS 13, which weighs no more than 3 lbs, has its long-lasting battery life to brag.

The brand new Dell offering can last up to half a day. And with an external battery, the notebook can run for two full days before asking to be juiced up. This is not mere advertising but something that was already tested and proven, National Column assured.

"Portability meets performance." — this is what its maker promised and fulfilled.

Alongside the XPS 13's incredible power and practicality is its classy look. The device was made ultra thin and lightweight. It is caked with "machined aluminum" in silver and has a carbon fiber composite base. On top of that is an edge-to-edge display and thin bezels, which added more sophistication. Its screen is measured 13.8 inches and it's made full HD so that's a crisp 1920 x 1080 pixels in resolution. There is also an option for buyers to get one with a touchscreen, which offers Quad HD (3200 x 1800 pixels).

Under the hood lie four types of processors that determine the notebook's price, namely: a 4th Generation Intel Core i3-4010U processor clocked at 1.7 GHz; an i5-4200U processor set at 2.6 GHz; one that is clocked at 3 GHz is the i7-4500U processor; and the most powerful is the i7-4650U processor that goes up to 3.3 GHz. This is paired with either 4 GB or 8 GB RAM and flash storage that goes from 128 GB to 256 GB.

The Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook goes around with an $800 starting price. This is much cheaper compared to the $1,000 13-inch MacBook Air, which looks hulking and less powerful when put side by side the XPS 13. According to Win Beta, the superior specced version of Dell's laptop is priced at $1,949.99. For those who have more cash to spare, The Australian Business Review broached about a power companion for the XPS 13, which will protract its battery life with only a $108 shell out.
