David Crowder has released his new solo album, Neon Steeple with its folk-country influenced lead single already reaching No 3 on the National Christian Audience in the US over the weekend.
Now releasing music under the name Crowder, the Christian artist will also be making his debut at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville on Saturday.
His new collection as a solo artist features 14 tracks and 3 bonus tracks, including a duet with Emmylou Harris, "My Sweet Lord", which made it onto USA Today's weekly playlist.
The album got its first airing earlier in the month with a free live stream via iTunes and last Sunday, Crowder performed tracks from the collection at a packed Passion City Church in Atlanta.
Crowder spent the evening playing through the new songs from the album, leading a packed room in a night of celebration and worship.
Neon Steeple follows on from Crowder:iTunes Session, his first solo project which offered fans nine stripped down versions of original Crowder songs.
The idea for his latest album was formed from the image of a steeple on the horizon and the collection is proof Crowder hasn't lost any of the musical innovation he has been loved for over the years.
And it seems that, two years after the David Crowder* Band delivered their final project, Give Us Rest, Crowder himself is still relishing the journey of uniting his passion for God with his love for music in all its forms.
He says of Neon Steeple: "It is a longing for belonging, a search for home. It is a collection of choruses that believe that this is not all there is. It is the sound of the Appalachians and Ibiza. Folk music and EDM. The music of the People. Folktronica. Digital and Analog. The Ones and Zeros and the Handshake. The Banjo and the 808. Neon Steeple is both a critique and a hope."
Crowder will be taking music from his latest solo offering on tour across the US this fall. The tour kicks off in Springfield, Montana, on September 30 and will include special guests All Sons & Daughters, Capital Kings and Ellie Holcomb.
His final date is at The Tabernacle in Atlanta, Georgia, on 15 November.
