CSI season 16 cancelled or renewed? Will the series be back?

Heading into the finale of the season of CSI Las Vegas, questions on whether the series will still be back for a 16th season are up in the air. And based on what had transpired, seeing the CSI Las Vegas team back for another season looks pretty much a guessing game for now.

The show did not really churn out credible ratings and was seen as one of the main reasons as to why the series trimmed their episodes from 22 to just 18.

In the CSI season 15 finale, viewers saw the end of the Gig Harbor killer angle. But more importantly, the last episode saw the exit of another original cast member in Jorge Eads (aka Nick Stokes).

Eads follows the exit of other original cast members such as Gary Dourdan (Warrick Brown), William Petersen (Gil Grissom), Marge Helgenberger (Catherine Willows) and Paul Guilfoyle (Jim Brass).

Only Jorja Fox (Sara Sidle) remains as the original member of the CSI main cast.

Laurence Fishburne was cast back in the 9th season as Dr. Raymond Langston with the hopes of trying to make up for Petersen's exit but he lasted only two seasons before leaving after season 11. Ted Danson would later be inserted into the cast followed by Elizabeth Shue.

The reason behind Eads' exit was said to be a result of his character, Nick Stokes, having completely evolved. In the finale, Stokes was set to be bound for San Diego where he would be instilled as the new head of forensics.

With a shortened episode roster and the exit of another original main cast member, the future doesn't look so clear on whether there would be a 16th season.

Despite the inclusion of Danson and Shue, the show has failed to fair in the ratings game. So will there be a CSI Vegas Season 16? It remains a toss-up for now.
