With lots of big men available next month, the attention seems to have shifted now on Indiana Pacer center Roy Hibbert.
After the Milwaukee Bucks were reportedly considering Hibbert, in comes the Cleveland Cavaliers who are reportedly looking for a big man who can contribute inside.
Despite the big numbers turned in by Timofey Mozgov, the Cavs seem to be looking for something more and Hibbert seems to be their target.
But the thing here is on whether getting Hibbert would be a wise move.
Hibbert has not exactly been putting up good numbers and such continue to dip. The Pacers intend to make a drastic change which could indicate that Hibbert may be losing his slot in the starting lineup unless he shapes up.
As Pacers president put it, Hibbert will have to earn his playing minutes back. So does this mean that Hibbert would seriously moving to another team next season?
Hibbert has a $15.1 million player option which he could use to try out free agency. Seeking a max contract right now doesn't seem justifiable unless there is some team willing to take the gamble.
But even if he picks that option up, there is no guarantee that the Pacers would not be open to a trade. If Cleveland would pursue him, the most likely player that the Cavs would deal is the seldom used Brendan Haywood.
Haywood is set to make $10,522,500 in the 2015-16 season and the Cavs could opt to trade him away and get a player that they could use instead. Haywood barely played for the Cavs so the team could very well be exploring options to trade him for someone they could use. And that person could be Roy Hibbert.
With Hibbert, the Cavs will need to fine-tune the big man and get him back to form. He could start or play backup but the bottom line is that the Cavs are looking for help underneath and in the middle.
Could Hibbert fit that need?
