When "Chicago Fire" season 5 returns to the small screen with episode 3, titled "Scorched Earth," Dawson (Monica Raymund) faces the possibility of losing her foster child.

The Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) is threatening to give Louie to another family after being tipped that she getting the kid so quickly because Casey (Jesse Spencer) pulled the strings.

In an exclusive preview of "Chicago Fire" season 5 episode 3, Dawson tells Casey that she will take matters into her own hands by "[bringing] some hell down on DCFS."

"You're not going to solve anything by going to war with a government agency," her boyfriend said in reply, adding "Politics got us into this mess; only politics can get us out. Gabby, I'll fix this. I promise."

As per the synopsis for "Chicago Fire" season 5 episode 3, he plans to do so by getting the help of political consultant Susan Weller (Lauren Stamile).

Dawson might not be too thrilled about the idea, especially since she has already been skeptical about this woman. However, it appears that Casey is left with no choice and so is the foster mom.

It will be interesting to see how this will affect Casey's political bids and Weller's political intentions in "Chicago Fire" season 5, since, whatever the latter pulls off, it will likely not go unreturned.

Stamile first played the role in the back half of the fourth season, and she returned to the "Chicago Fire" season 5 premiere as well. This will be her second appearance in this season.

The synopsis for "Chicago Fire" season 5 episode 3 reads: "Severide (Taylor Kinney) receives an offer to travel luxuriously with rich party guy Travis Brenner (guest star Scott Elrod) and Stella (Miranda Rae Mayo) uses all her resources to help a sick street kid after saving him during a tunnel fire. Meanwhile, Otis (Yuri Sardarov) and Herrmann (David Eigenberg) discuss their concerns over Molly's lack of customers."

"Chicago Fire" season 5 episode 3, "Scorched Earth," airs on Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
