'Captain America: Civil War' cast updates: Samuel L. Jackson won't be in film

"Captain America: Civil War," another Marvel blockbuster in the making, is touted to be as big, if not bigger, than "Avengers: Age of Ultron" because of the massive cast lineup it boasts. In this stellar pack, however, actor Samuel L. Jackson isn't included.

Fans won't be seeing the eye-patched hero Nick Fury in action, popping in and out in the film. Jackson himself confirmed this, and he was actually surprised, probably as shocked as Marvel fans, that he won't appear in "Captain America: Civil War."

"I was surprised I wasn't in Civil War, because the Russo Brothers told me I was. I don't know what's going on," Jackson told IGN.

The actor had no idea of the change of plans and the reason behind it, but he tried to provide an explanation as to why Nick Fury won't be needed in the scene.

"I can't figure that out, but I'm not [in it]," Jackson initially told Collider. He then went on to say, "I guess I'm still out there, trying to figure out what happened to S.H.I.E.L.D. and who these other people are."

Nick Fury's absence in "Captain America: Civil War," as said earlier, comes as a surprise. His inclusion has always been presumed. Besides, almost every character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe are going to show up in the film. Even Ant-Man, Spider-Man, and Black Panther are joining the party.

Looking ahead, Nick Fury's probable next appearance will have to wait until 2017 with "Avengers: Infinity War Part 1" kicking in. Cinema Blend says Nick Fury's inclusion deems unfit in the next phase of Marvel movies, which includes "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" and "Thor: Ragnarok."

The site went on to say that if the character isn't in the upcoming Cap movie, he might at least make an appearance in the "Spider-Man" movie, where he could recruit Peter Parker to join the Avengers. When Jackson talked to Collider, he also revealed that he's "looking for a contract extension right now" and that he's "looking to re-up."

Meanwhile, in other "Captain America: Civil War" news, a trailer for the film was supposedly leaked. However, it was dismissed to be fake since shooting for the film just started. On the other hand, Heroic Hollywood released a new promo art showing Crossbones in all his glory.

"Captain America: Civil War" will be released on May 6, 2016.
