Canelo Alvarez next fight news 2015: Not limited to Miguel Cotto

Canelo 'Saul' Alvarez has already started to get back in fighting shape for what many believe will be a big fight this September.

The boxing world is eagerly awaiting the much hyped Canelo Alvarez vs. Miguel Cotto fight, something believed to be better than the disappointing May 2 bout between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao.

Unlike the strategic approach that Mayweather employed against Pacquiao, many are expecting a brawl and fierce exchange from the Mexican and Puerto Rican who have been known to always go for the kill when the opportunity comes.

Testament to that is the fact that Alvarez and Cotto are coming of KO wins, practically signaling that the two are going to give boxing fans one heck of a show.

The thing is, the fight hasn't been made official. So one has to wonder why Alvarez has started training this early with the deal still on the table.

Everyone has probably heard of previous negotiations which saw a supposed May 2 fight go down the drain. What makes this fight different? Just because Cotto called Alvarez out doesn't immediately mean that he will sign on the dotted line. It can happen but apparently (like Mayweather) it will be made official only when Cotto wants it to be.

So in the worst case scenario that Cotto holds out again, why is Alvarez deep into training?

"Saul has several options but the fight with Cotto would be beautiful," Alvarez's manager Eddy Reynoso said. "Hopefully we can secure that confrontation. That fight would be ideal. But just in case we have plans B and C" through a report from Boxingscene.com

Apparently the Mexican fighter has backup plans, other opponents in mind which remain unknown for now. Alvarez is keenly looking to get back in the ring, possibly this September, though there is still no guarantee if his opponent would be Cotto.

Gennady Golovkin could be a possible opponent, someone who has made it known he wants to fight either Alvarez or Cotto. With two options in the air, such could be a reason why Alvarez has started to train early.
