Season 4 for "Call the Midwife" can't come any sooner. But right now, there is still no official word on the premiere date. So far, there are spoilers sprouting left and right about what's to come in the new season.
The Christmas Special dropped a hint as to what can be expected in the new season. After the move that Cynthia did, it is safe to say that the story will go along slowly. Season 4 will bring about changes that won't necessarily happen immediately. Again, the show is moving toward slower story-telling, reports Carter Matt.
Show creator Heidi Thomas revealed something about season 4 to Radio Times. She said, "Throughout the series, we've been addressing this very slow and gradual progression of social change, which ultimately will ignite into something much bigger in the middle of the 1960s."
As for the slow changes, she addressed it by saying, "It's all very subtle, you see ... Early on, even series 3, was about dealing with the aftermath of war and we're starting to leave that behind now and deal with the influences that are coming in with the future."
Elsewhere, there's someone who is very happy to be part of the Nonnatus House. Charlotte Ritchie, who plays Nurse Barbara Gilbert, will be joining the new season starting from the premiere episode.
She told Radio Times, "I really love it. I've got to stop feeling like a competition winner."
She then described her character, saying, "She begins quite badly and sort of redeems herself a bit later on. She has a couple of really tragic moments, which is awful and then she kind of gets into her stride a bit more – but she still continues to make mistakes along the way."
Ritchies went on to say that she doesn't want to spoil her character, but she assured fans that there will be both triumphant and catastrophic moments for Barbara Gilbert. But all in all, Ritchie is enjoying everything about the show and her character.
"The hats are ridiculous. They actually look good on other people so I'm hoping that they look fine on me, but when I wear it I feel like I've got a jam jar on my head," she said.
She also shared how exciting it is to wear the headbands once again.
"Call the Midwife" will return for season 4 in early 2015.
