Video game developers, Sledgehammer Games along with publishers, Activision, have just recently released "Call of Duty: WWII," and the reviews are now. The long-running first person shooter game has packed all the features that the series is known for along with the alternative game, Nazi Zombies, as well as an engaging story mode. However, what do video game critics have to say about it?
In a video game review by Gamespot, the six-hour story mode of "Call of Duty: WWII" was quite substantial, with a supporting cast that "greatly enhanced the narrative." These non-playable characters provided players with options for assistance throughout the single player campaign mode. These characters will have the ability to give players more ammunition, grenades, and health packs, and will activate a cool down after players have received the aid.
IGN has also applauded Sledgehammer Games' efforts at the story for the latest installment. Most of the time, players will be using the main protagonist, Private Red Daniels whose specialty lies in the battlefield. However, there are missions that emphasize more on stealth, which is something that Private Daniels is not very skilled at — and for those segments, players will be using the other characters instead. This provides more variety and scenery in the game.
In terms of multiplayer, Sledgehammer has changed the interface by incorporating the "Headquarters" — which is a social space wherein players can pick from a myriad of different activities to grind some experience points to purchase skills and other in-game items. Players can also wait at the "Headquarters" to party up with other players.
With the new game, also comes a new mode that is focused on multiplayer ability — titled War. War is similar to "Battlefield" Rush game mode, wherein players have to complete numerous objectives in order to win each instance. The opposing team will have to try and sabotage the completion of these objectives. This emphasizes cooperation between teammates and will need substantially more communication in order for the teams to succeed.
"Call of Duty: WWII" is now available for the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4, and the PC.
