'Call of Duty: Black Ops 3' pre-order now; game features female protagonist

 Call of Duty's official website

This week is officially Treyarch and Activision's "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" info extravaganza. The gaming community plunged into a whole host of details about the highly-anticipated shooter, which has been confirmed to be released on Nov. 6.

Players will be hurled into a world swamped by the dangerous mix of biotech, cybernetics and zombies. Gamers will no longer be mere soldiers; they will play as specialists, whose unique selection of weapons and abilities will be their main utility to tear through the world persecuted by the horrors of technology gone dark.

The characters for the game are more formidable and deadlier and, as the trailer so vividly emphasized, the game has turned soldiers into weapons. The clip even showed a soldier transforming his arm into a minigun, barraging everything on his way.

"Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" is a very special title as it is the first in the core series to have a female lead character onboard. This means that players will be able to come to blows with horrifying robots and rampaging breeds of the undead as a female soldier.

And with the game's newfound four-player co-op campaign and multiplayer mode, it is now possible for players to lead an all-female squad in executing their missions. The inclusion of a female protagonist, as Campaign director Jason Blundell revealed, was a nod to "Mass Effect" protagonist Commander Shepard, who can be played as a male or a female.

Digital versions of the upcoming title can now be pre-ordered. Those who do will be automatic participants to an open beta for the game that has yet to be scheduled. Treyarch has revealed that the beta may include three different-sized maps.

Those who want to prepare their PCs before the game arrives can take note of these system requirements (recommended specs have yet to be revealed):

Minimum PC Specs

  • OS: 64-bit Windows 7, 8, and 8.1
  • CPU: Intel Core i3-530 2.93 GHz / AMD Phenom II X4 810 2.60 GHz
  • System RAM: 6 GB
  • Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 470 1 GB / ATi Radeon HD 6970 1 GB
  • Hard Drive Space: TBA
  • DirectX11

"Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" will also be released for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
