Bruno Mars news: Singer garners eight nominations for American Music Awards

There are many things that artist and song writer, Bruno Mars, has been able to achieve in his career. Mars has been consistently on top of his game. Even after all the years that he has been in business of making music, he is still slated to be the top nominee for the upcoming American Music Awards scheduled for the month of November.

In a report by Music News, Mars has garnered eight nominations for the upcoming awards ceremony. Mars is also nominated for Artist of the Year, which is one of the most coveted awards in the business. Other nominees for the award are Drake, The Chainsmokers, Kendrick Lamar, and Ed Sheeran. Another award that Mars is nominated for is Favorite Male Artist in the pop and rock category.

The announcement was made on Oct. 12, Thursday. The event this year will mark as the 45th anniversary for the awards ceremony, as stated by The Music Universe. The American Music Awards is considered to be the world's largest voting awards show.

Page Six pointed out that the nominations were based on fan-voting, which is the natural process of the American Music Awards. Mars may lead in terms of number of nominations, but other artists like The Chainsmokers, Lamar, Sheeran, Drake, and The Weeknd are all tied with five nominations – just three shy of eight.

Another notable nomination for Favorite Pop/Rock Song of the year is from Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee, and Justin Bieber. Their song "Despacito" has broken the most viewed record on YouTube, gaining more than three billion views on the channel. Additionally, "Despacito" is also in the running for Video of the Year.

The American Music Awards is scheduled to air live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Nov. 19 at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
