With the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao mega bout materializing, Amir Khan finds himself in search of an opponent.
It will be recalled that Khan was a popular name floating around just in case the fight of the century between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao did not push through. So now, Khan needs to find another boxer to take on and it may be someone familiar to him in Chris Algieri.
Algieri last fought Manny Pacquiao but lost via decision. The former kickboxer turned boxer was dropped six times by Pacquiao and surely, the American fighter wants to get back on track.
And all that could happen if rumored plans between him and former sparring mate Amir Khan gains ground. Unofficially, the target date is May 30, 2015.
Khan was already in talks to possibly face off against friend and former sparring partner Pacquiao had Mayweather continued to hold back earlier this year. Had Mayweather not made the announcement, chances are that a Khan-Pacquiao bout would have been the one scheduled for May.
Khan is no stranger to Mayweather as well as both were in talks to face off in May of last year but everything fizzled out.
Despite these plans, critics believe that the fight will not work to the advantage of Khan as far as gaining popularity is concerned. Apparently this is with reference to Algieri who doesn't really have a solid following.
So with that said, is Khan simply trying to keep himself in competitive shape for a possible face-off with either Mayweather or Pacquiao after the two get it on this May 2?
Such could be possible.
With Khan vacant at the moment, the only recourse right now is to look for someone to meet in the ring. For now, the target seems to be Algieri.
