Blake Shelton says his new song was God's way of telling him things would be alright

Blake Shelton may well be on his way to delivering his first ever Christian hit after making a name for himself on the country scene and becoming one of the most recognisable superstars from Nashville. But for Shelton, his first Christian song is more than an attempt to penetrate the Christian market.

According to the country superstar and The Voice coach, his latest song "Savior's Shadow" was God's assurance to him that everything would be alright, CMT reported

"At a very dark time in my life last year. I dreamed the first verse of this song. I woke up and immediately wrote it down. Now, looking back, I know it was God's way of telling me that he's here and things are gonna be OK," Shelton said.

In the lyrics of the first verse, Shelton describes how he felt God's presence guiding him through the darkness and towards the light.

"I'm standing in my savior's shadow/He is watching over me/ I feel the rain/I hear the thunder/As He cries for me/And standing in my savior's shadow/Grace will lead to where I'm free/I take His hand/We walk together/His light shines on me," the lyrics read.

To complete the rest of the song, Shelton worked with fellow country artists Jessi Alexander and Jon Randall.

Although he did not go into details, Shelton went through a divorce with Miranda Lambert after four years of marriage last year. The former couple did not disclose the reason for the split but it became fodder for gossip magazines and sites around the time of their separation, reported Inquistr.

In one of his tweets, Shelton shared his pride over the song and his excitement over its release on Christian stations.

"In all the years I've been doing this I've never experienced this kind of reaction from a song. So proud," he posted.

"Savior's Shadow" is from Shelton's latest album "If I'm Honest" which is due for release on May 20.
