'The Blacklist' season 3 spoilers, plot news: What is Red to Liz?

Liz and Red NBC

"The Blacklist" viewers are still unable to understand what sort of relationship Red and Liz really share. This is why there are rumors that season 3 of the crime drama will shed some light on this baffling aspect.

As confused as fans are is Liz herself, as revealed by actress Megan Boone. During an interview with Zap2it, she shared her insight on what type of feelings Red has toward her character Liz and how that could go on in season 3.

"I think people see how much Red loves her, and it is a confusing kind of love," Boone acknowledged. "I think that will have to be answered. How do you love someone that deeply — no matter what the circumstances, but especially when the circumstances are mysterious?"

Boone admitted that perhaps, Liz "loves" Red but not in a romantic way, saying, "I don't necessarily think it's a love story between Liz and Reddington, even though there are people out there that really feel that's what they want."

As viewers know, love life is not much of a priority to Liz, who is consumed by her quest to find out who she really is. In the season 2 finale, she managed to recall glimpses of her past and it was revealed that she was the one who shot her father to protect her mother.

Crossmap says that the other explanation of Red's overprotectiveness and strong compulsion to keep Liz out of harm's way is the possibility that he may simply be her biological father or maybe a brother or an uncle.

The cast will be back on set for "The Blacklist" soon. Season 3 is expected to premiere this fall. Carter Matt hopes that upon the show's return, there will be a new baddie for the entirety of the run whose special skill is to get away from his crimes and Red's attention.
