Ben Seewald: If you can't understand many things about God, be in awe, don't despair

Soon-to-be dad Ben Seewald, the husband of Jessa Duggar from "19 Kids and Counting," believes that there are a lot of things people don't understand about God, but the things they don't comprehend about Him should not leave them in despair, but rather in awe.

"Many things about God are beyond our comprehension. As humans we don't like this. We like a little bitty god that can fit inside our itty bitty logical box and be understood by our tiny little human brains," he wrote in the Seewald Family Blog. "Take the hypostatic union of Jesus for example. Jesus, 100% God, 100% man. The God-Man. Two 100%??? Doesn't make sense in our brains. Maybe that is because He is GOD and we are humans. Maybe that's because God is really BIG and we are really small."

Ben then said it is a good thing that God has decided to reveal Himself to us through the Gospel—how to be saved and how to get closer to Him.

"Verses so clear are given to us, like John 3:16—'For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.' There are many single and complex truths in God's Word that we are to study and learn and understand," he said.

However, Ben also noted that there are some things about God that people will still fail to understand, no matter how much they read and study the Bible, such as the Trinity, the Hypostatic Union, the relationship between's God's sovereignty and decrees, and people's human responsibility and free agency.

"In these moments, don't reject it because you can't understand it. Instead, take a step back and stand in awe of God," he urged. "Take a moment to think on His words in Psalm 46:10: 'Be still, and know that I am God.'"
