'Bates Motel' season 5 spoilers: Marion Crane rumored to have 'edgy hunk' love interest

"Bates Motel" season 5 will be quite different to the iconic horror film "Psycho," made by Alfred Hitchcock, where it is inspired from, and it looks like one of the major changes has been uncovered.

The casting of Isabelle McNally as Norma's (Vera Farmiga) doppelganger, Madeleine Loomis, had Zap2it thinking that she has some type of connection with Marion Crane (to be played by Rihanna).

Madeleine's last name suggests that she is connected to Sam Loomis, Marion's boyfriend in "Psycho." The site surmises that she might actually be "Bates Motel's" version of Sam.

Executive producer Carlton Cuse has said in the past that they will do their own take on the "Psycho" lore, saying that "it would be boring" to just follow the film word for word.

Making Marion's love interest a woman will certainly serve that goal. However, Michael Ausiello of TV Line has claimed that "Bates Motel" season 5 is also casting Sam. It should be noted that this was reported before McNally's casting.

Ausiello claims that Marion will have a boyfriend in the series, describing him as a "sorta sexy devil for whom a woman might consider embezzling a small fortune."

He went on to say that "Bates Motel" is looking for an "edgy hunk" for the role. This suggests that the show is sticking with the "Psycho" storyline in terms of the romance aspect of Marion.

However, there are still ways to turn this bit around. TV Line guesses that Madeleine will be the wife of Sam, who will be cheating on Marion in "Bates Motel" season 5.

Zap2it, however, suggests that, if the show chooses to take the storyline with Marion and Madeleine as lovers, it will play to the shock factor.

The idea of Norman (Freddie Highmore) seeing a lookalike of his mother with another will see a new level of his rage and insanity.

"Bates Motel" executive producer Kerry Ehrin caught wind of such speculations but did not specifically react or give any hint about it.

That being said, it looks like fans will just have to wait until "Bates Motel" season 5, which happens to be the show's final season, premieres next year.
