The American horror TV series "Bates Motel," based on the Alfred Hitchcock's classic 1960 film "Psycho," ended its fourth and penultimate season last month with a shocker, leaving its loyal viewers with so many questions in their minds and eager to learn when the show will return.

According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, the fifth and final season of "Bates Motel" is expected to return next year. Since the past three seasons premiered in March for the past years, it is reasonable to expect that the last episodes of the show will begin airing in the same month in 2017.

Carlton Cuse, one of the showrunners of "Bates Motel," said the final season will ultimately tie in the TV show's storyline to "Psycho."

"Season five is about the ways in which our show does and more specifically does not intersect with the events of Psycho. [We] have always framed the show as a tragedy, and tragedy is a storytelling form where you know the characters have a bad fate but you're hoping against hope they don't meet that fate," Cuse told The Hollywood Reporter.

He added that lead character Norman Bates, played by Freddie Highmore, will come closer to but not necessarily duplicate the troubled protagonist in the classic film.

"We are going to see a version of Norman that is much closer now to the one in the movie, but the way in which he acts and the events in the story will not be the same as the movie. They will cross paths with some of the events in the movie and lead to an ultimate resolution," Cuse said.

"What that resolution is and how that plays out is something that will be not disconnected to the movie Psycho but will be very much our own story in the same way the entire series has been," he added.
