'Avatar 2' release date, plot spoilers, news: Delay still on the table to accommodate James Cameron's vision for the film?

A still from "Avatar" 20th Century Fox

Director James Cameron has an ambitious vision for "Avatar 2," and to the filmmaker, it is more important to pull it off than beating the deadline.

At the moment, "Avatar 2" is scheduled for a Christmas 2018 release, which should see it toe to toe with "Star Wars: Episode 8." However, Cameron said that this could still be changed.

"We haven't moved that target yet, but we will if we need to. The important thing for me is not when the first one comes out but the cadence of the release pattern," he told Variety.

"I want them to be released as close together as possible. If it's an annual appointment to show up at Christmas, I want to make sure that we're able to fulfill on that promise," he went on to say. Stilt

Cameron recently expressed his interest in making "Avatar 2" and the next three movies in the franchise filmed in higher frame rates and no glasses 3D. The director said that he and his team are working on using high dynamic range (HDR) and high frame rates (HFR) for the sequel.

"I'm still very bullish on 3D, but we need brighter projection, and ultimately I think it can happen—with no glasses. We'll get there," Cameron said as quoted by Indie Wire while he accepted his honorary membership in the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers.

Cameron is known for visually stunning films and pushing the envelope in the filmmaking technology and innovation so that the movies not only tells a good story but shows it too with the visuals.

With a project as ambitious as "Avatar 2," which features a world of wonder and beauty that is Pandora, it makes sense that Cameron will want to depict it in the most beautiful way to the big screen.

This goal, which would involve a lot of work and time, might delay the release of "Avatar 2," although there is no confirmation yet.
