'Avatar 2' plot rumors: Source of viral concept art turns out to be fake

Avatar 20th Century Fox

Details have been elusive about "Avatar 2," which is currently in development for a 2017 release. And so any form of teaser or spoiler could have fans hooked. Just recently, an alleged artwork for the highly anticipated sequel was tweeted out from an account bearing the name of the movie's producer Jon Landau.

Media outlets and fans feasted on the concept art, which showed an incomplete sketch of a face of a Na'vi. The image was captioned "Avatar 2," which suggested that it is sort of an artwork from the upcoming film. But Deadline has word that this image was from the first film of the franchise, released back in 2009.

In fact, the publication says that the Twitter account used to post the photo is a fake account that Landau himself has been trying to have removed. After the image went viral, the said account, which apparently had been around for quite a while, was suspended. Some reports about the image were also taken down.

There are only scanty details about "Avatar 2," most of which come from director James Cameron's statements from the past months and years. These very statements are also the latest, unfortunately. From there, fans speculate that the sequel will give fans a look at the world below Pandora and its waters.

Cameron has always said that they are upping their game in the visuals department. They built a special graphic software to cater to their needs in creating a breathtaking realm for Pandora the fans would be in awe of. But what makes Cameron and his team really busy is that they are working on "Avatar 2," Avatar 3" and "Avatar 4" all at once.

"We're writing three simultaneously. And we've done that so that everything tracks throughout the three films. We're not just going to do one and then make up another one and another one after that and parallel with that, we're doing all the design. So we've designed all the creatures and the environments," the filmmaker said as quoted by IB Times.

"Avatar 2" is scheduled to hit the big screen in December 2017.
