'Assassin's Creed 5' release date: Game tipped for 2018 launch as Ubisoft focuses on quality of finish

"Assassin's Creed 5" will not be released this year, and fans should not anticipate it to see the light of day next year either, despite expectations that it will.

Ubisoft vice president of editorial Tommy François said during a chat with IGN that the extra time will be used to create a game that will make people "fall in love" with it.

"We believe Alpha for these games needs to be one year before release. We're trying to achieve that," the Ubisoft executive said, referring to both the "Assassin's Creed" and "Far Cry" series.

"That's super f— blunt, I don't even know if I'm allowed to say this. This is the goal we're going for: Alpha one year before, more quality, more polish," he went on to say.

That being said, fans will have to wait at least a couple of years before they can get a load of "Assassin's Creed 5," but fans can expect the game to be stellar as Ubisoft is only buying time to make the title the best that it can be.

"Alpha is just saying getting stuff done, but leaving time for polish and innovation. I mean it from that perspective," François explained.

"We still need to have an Alpha, and we need it available as early as we possibly can, because the more time we have for this the more polish we have, the more time we can change, refine [and] swap systems. You just can't take shortcuts," he continued.

The likely launch date for "Assassin's Creed 5" now moves up to 2018, which makes it the longest wait fans of the action-adventure video game series will have to endure.

Although the new "Assassin's Creed" game, which is believed to be subtitled "Empire," is still has a long way to go before it takes off, industry insider Nibel shared what he claims as a screenshot from the game.

The image features a pyramid, which adds up to the previous rumors that "Assassin's Creed 5" will be set in Egypt. At the moment, however, there's no way to corroborate this.

The authenticity of the leak is still in question, so fans are advised to take this with a grain of salt.
