The revival of iconic '90s series "Are You Afraid of the Dark" will be released in Halloween of 2019. According to Paramount Players, it will premiere on Oct. 11, 2019.

First unveiled in November, the reboot will be penned by "It" writer Gary Dauberman, who will also co-produce it with Matt Kaplan ("You Get Me"). Dauberman is a well-established scriptwriter for the horror genre, having penned the scripts for box-office hits "Annabelle" and "Annabelle: Creation." He also did the screenplay for the upcoming 2018 horror film "The Nun."

"The show is about the shared experience of telling stories -- especially scary ones. We're going to celebrate that with this movie and honor the darker, scarier tone of the show, which was really groundbreaking for Nickelodeon at the time. I hope the Midnight Society approves," Dauberman told The Hollywood Reporter when the reboot was first announced.

A D.J. MacHale and Ned Kandel creation, "Are You Afraid of the Dark" was a Canadian anthology series that aired on Nickelodeon in the U.S. from 1992 to 1996. It followed a group of kids who called themselves The Midnight Society and gathered together by the woods to tell various creepy stories every week. Some were based on fairytales, some on urban legends, all came with interesting modern twists.

In 1999, the show was revived for two more seasons, with a set of new writers as well as showrunners.

"Are You Afraid of the Dark" starred Ross Hull as Gary, Daniel DeSanto as Tucker, Raine Pare-Coull as Betty Ann, Jodie Resther as Kiki, among other teen stars. There were also some future stars who appeared on the show such as Ryan Gosling and Neve Campbell.

Although aimed at younger audiences, the show had some really dark episodes that the now-adult viewers have yet to forget. According to Screenrant, the episodes "The Tale of the Dollmaker," "The Tale of Dead Man's Float," and "The Tale of the Ghastly Grinner" are just some of them. It is yet unknown what storyline the movie remake would take.

There is also no director yet for the film adaptation.
